for my sister

For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, from whom every family in heaven

and on earth is named, that according to the riches of his flory he may grant you to

be strengthened with power through is Spirit in your inner being, so that Christ may dwell in your hearts

through faith - that you, being rooted and grounded in love, may have strength to comprehend

with all the saints what is the breadth and the length and height and depth,

and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled

with all the fullness of God.

Ephesians 3:14-19

My sister is living with stage 4 colon cancer. She has been since 2009 when she was first diagnosed.

She was 7 years cancer free but it did return in her sacrum, which is a little bone near your coxic.

Since then she has been through chemo, radiology, and all kinds of medications to treat

the cancer that is never going to go away. She has been told that it's not a matter of if it comes

back, it's a matter of when. So...every 6 months or more she has scans and tests to see where

it may have popped up next. There are spots on her liver and her lungs but so far they have

remained relatively quiet. At one point she had a huge blast of radiation to her iliac which

gave her permanent "drop foot" which means that she cannot walk without a walker and

a brace. She is on medication for pain which she experiences most of the time.

Through out all of this she remains positive and as active as she can be. She can no longer

work and so spends much of her time at home.

It's been heartbreaking to watch her go from a woman who worked, raised a family, travelled and

spent time with many friends to a woman who is mostly home.

They see something of interest in her thyroid and she had to have a biopsy this week.

Please include her in your prayers.

  6. Cancer is such a beast. :( I'm sorry for all that your sister has already been through, and for what she's currently going through. This is obviously very hard on you as well. What a blessing that your sister has you to love her so deeply. Take care of yourself too!

  7. Cancer is relentless. I am so very grateful for the excellent care and treatments hospitals in Boston have offered my loved ones. Ultimately, I am grateful our Lord walks through these journeys with us - providing strength, love, endurance and hope. May your sister, and you, cling to the hope we have in Christ. Praying for you all this morning.
