sleeping in the tent

~ ~ ~

I spent the night in my new tent with my grandchildren.

We slept under the most beautiful big, old pine tree in their back garden.

We call it a Tamarack pine but I'm not sure if that is what it really is.

Verne, who is 5, watched fireflies with our heads down near the screen doors before falling asleep.

He thought it was just about the coolest thing he had ever done

and I think it was just about the coolest thing I've ever done as well.

Abby fell asleep before the dragonflies came out but she woke early enough to color some pictures

under the blankets.

In the morning we emptied the tent of sippy cups, crayons, tiny lanterns, and picture books.

We folded up our quilts and packed up the car.

Daddy brought us coffee and donuts from Dunkin Donuts

and I headed back home.

Children learn so much from being out in the natural world.

It doesn't have to be a hike into the great wilderness.

Sometimes an overnight in the backyard is a wonderful adventure...

maybe even the coolest thing you've ever done.

  4. aw....how special to camp out in the backyard. We had our children camping early on (had a pop up camper after the oldest was born.....she camped at age 1 and our youngest, 5 years later had her first trip at 6 months old!!). but in between camping trips, we would use our old tent for them in the backyard with daddy. Such special times. ANd yes..watching the fireflies at night was a fave with mine. glad you had that time!

  5. Such a wonderful time camping out with your grandchildren. And I like your new tent. Your coffee and donuts the next morning sound Yummy. I've been drinking Dunkin Donuts coffee lately, but haven't had a donut in awhile.

    Happy August!

  6. Oh what fun. We have talked about getting a tent, but the night brings coyotes, fox and raccoons so we do a small tent in the living room… love this..
