20 January

I made a lentil salad on Monday.

It's got some roasted cauliflower, butternut squash, leeks, garlic and, of course, lentils.

I plopped a few spoonfuls over a smallish blue bowl

of brown basmati rice.

My house was full of boys watching hockey and playing video games

so I slipped into my bedroom with my blue bowl and a cup of tea

I watched the sun shining over the Atlantic

listened to some old Joni Mitchel

and had myself a bit of lunch

At the end of February it will be one year since my step-daughter passed away

I have re-emerged at the end of this year as a different sort of person

I am stronger in ways I would never have wished to be

I am broken in ways I didn't think I would ever be able to recover from

some days I still struggle to get through the loss of my step-daughter

I am also a grandmother!

My heart has grown 2 sizes as the Grinch would say....

I have a new job in Boston and I love it!

in honor of all that I have started to build a better wardrobe

clothing to reflect who I am now

These boots are part of that

We had the boys with us on Sunday and Monday

we bundled up and went for a walk on the beach

I went to see Verne on Monday!

Yes....he's cute!!

My mum fell on Monday evening.

She had to be transported to hospital by ambulance!

She fractured and chipped her hip

on the left side where she was already sporting a fractured ankle.

Hopefully she will be transported from the hospital to rehab today.

  5. Sorry to hear about your loss. It's hard to make sense of things sometimes. And your Mum. I hope she's doing better. But having the new job and building the new wardrobe are good positive things. And time with grandchildren is always good. Enjoy the weekend.

  6. I hope your Mom is doing better. Loss and grief -- it never goes away. It teaches so much and sounds like you've but the time to good use. Your grandson just gets cuter and cuter. Speaking of cute -- love the boots. Your salad looks wonderful.

  7. I have never had lentil salad - sounds interesting! Those anniversaries of a loved one's death are hard. How sweet to have the joy of a new grandson in the same year. He's growing so fast. I am sorry about your mom's fall - hope she has a good and quick recovery.

  8. I do love lentils but anything tastes even better in a pretty bowl! I hope your Mom has a quick recovery. I miss the walks we always used to take when the kids were little. So nice to get out in the fresh air as a family and have some fun! Verne definitely is a cutie and I love the last picture.
