Psalm 107: 1,9
Oh give thanks to the Lord, for he is good,
for his steadfast love endures forever.
For he satisfies the longing soul,
and the hungry soul he fills with good things.

Sometimes I pray in lists...
did I pray enough about my family members, my friends, my co-workers?
am I sure I covered everything I think they needed prayer for?
Did mention the homeless man on the corner that looks like Gandolf?
Did I mention all the homeless people?
Did I say thank you? Am I humble enough? Am I too proud?
Honestly, it can get exhausting.
I pray in the car on my way to work.
I like to imagine checking off what I've already mentioned so I won't forget anything.
One morning I happened to be driving over a bridge
and the sun was rising over the Atlantic ocean
and the sky was filled with ribbons of color
and the water was reflecting all this magnificence.
Likewise the Spirit helps us in our weakness. For we do not know what to pray for as we ought, but the Spirit himself intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. And he who searches hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because the Spirit intercedes for the saints according to the will of God.

Or perhaps I am walking in the wood and I come upon a milkweed pod
sending forth it's seeds on a November breeze
and I fall to my knees with the beauty of it
with groanings too deep for words
and he satisfies my longing soul.
This is beautiful. He fills our hungry souls! Amen!ReplyDelete
I love the fact that we have a wonderful Heavenly Father Who's heart is moved at even our weakest prayers.ReplyDelete
This post is so gentle and soothing. Thank you on this Sunday morning. Have a blessed week.ReplyDelete
I think many of us pray in lists, but it's good to ask ourselves questions like you asked yourself so we don't just pray with vain repetitions. Thanks for the reminder.ReplyDelete
What a beautiful post!!ReplyDelete
I appreciated so much all that you said here. Thank you for the reminder of how prayer happens in many ways and in many settings.
