The seasons of a simple spirit

Welcome November Dull November brings the blast Then the leaves are whirling fast Q is for.... quietude ~ ~ ~ I love this time of year we settle into our comfortable chairs of an evening early nesting with those we love the most reading by a fire knitting a sweater....or the dream of a sweater and then we snuggle up in fuzzy flannel and pull our favorite quilts up over us. Perhaps the floor is cold on your toes when you rise but  the smell of warm coffee and the crispness of Autumn lure you out of your bed and into the day where there's bright chrysanthemums in the street side markets and roundish orange pumpkins on every corner I am thankful for the beauty of Autumn in New England. It cloaks me in peacefulness and quietude. ABC Wednesday wordless Wednesday coffee for your heart Wake up Wednesday Women with intention A Wise Woman Builds Her Home

beside still waters

Image
our house is here on the edge of the beach on this rather tiny sort of an island This evening as I type I hear the wind whistling and howling outside of my window and the waves of the Atlantic crashing against the rocky shore but the waters in my heart are still because I trust in the Lord ~ ~ ~   t  Psalm 107:28-31 Then they cried out to the Lord in their trouble, and he delivered them from their distress. He made the storm still, and the waves of the sea were hushed. Then they were glad that the waters were quiet, and he led them to their desired haven. That green house is my home I came upon these things as I ambled on the beach one morning Someone had lashed two long driftwood branches together as a makeshift sail for a tiny rowboat that had washed ashore during a storm. t Mark 6:51 And he got into the boat with them and the winds ceased. And they were utterly astonished. t Psalm 23 He leadeth me beside still wate

First and foremost Verne only the cutest, sweetest, most well behaved grandson of all time second I love rambling up and over and round and about Beacon Hill on my lunch hour I wonder a bit about who lives behind that arched green door and who might have ridden their bicycle over for a spot of tea and a game of whist Thirdly Though he isn't Verne... he runs a pretty close second in cuteness Tuck Finn who scampers and scurries and pounces about the house saving us from all sorts of terrible terrors and gets himself into a spot of trouble while he's at it We got together last night to celebrate my brother's birthday. My mum, my brother, his lovely girlfriend, came over for soup, salad, and cake! We haven't carved any pumpkins this year. We plan on doing it on Saturday evening when the boys are with us.  This toothy jack-o-lantern is from last year.

Autumn light

Image
I am thankful for the way the low lying light comes through  the window in my living room. It falls so softy on the orange pumpkins and the pile of old books it glances off the candle sticks all golden and amber and pulls me into the cozy nostalgia of home on an early autumn evening Share your cup Thursday Little things Thursday The charm of home

the fun Is it such a very terrible thing to say that I have bought a Christmasy sort of wooden house? Already....and it's not even Halloween yet. the random   While on my lunch break stroll through Beacon Hill last week I took a few photos in one of the old graveyards  and all these strange light beams showed up...even a rainbow. Very odd happenings so close to Halloween. the good  What could be better than little Verne? I'm not quite sure how it's possible but he just keeps getting better and better. t ~ ~ ~ Ecclesiastes 3:1-2   To everything there is a season and a time for every matter under heaven a time to be born and a time to die a time to plant and a time to pluck up what is planted ~ ~ ~ The first time I heard these words they were in a song sung by Pete Seeger.  Life has battered and bruised and dented me since then.  It's also blessed me with boundless joy.  Now I read these words in an old and tattered ESV bible and they mean so much more than I ever could have imagined.  Scripture and a snapshot spiritual Sundays Sundays at home

Tuck vs. the Viva roll

Image
Tucker Huckleberry Finn would like any and all to be aware that he is taking care of the issue regarding the paper towels First discovered upon the dining room table and subsequently transferred  to the dining room floor... Where upon it was discovered the rolling and or ripping qualities of said offending material. Not to worry though, our boy is stealthily pursuing his target. Rest assured Tucker will leave no leap un-leaped he has the situation well in hand, er...paw. signing out..... your protector of all things rolly and rippy, Tucker Huckleberry Finn

The bittersweet vine is so pretty at this time of year.  It's very invasive but I love the orange and red berries  and the green leaves which turn to such a pretty yellow. It wouldn't feel like Autumn without a bit of bittersweet berries to decorate the house with. I got to spend some time with Verne and his mama.     He and I chatted while his mama took a nice long shower. He told me stories about sucky things and warm milk. It's not always easy being one week old and sometimes it helps  to have a Nana you can tell your troubles to. The weather was sunny and warm, which is quite unusual for October. We sat in the backyard for a bit so my daughter could get some fresh air and Verne had his first little picnic lunch. texture twist pictorial Friday Life Through the Lens Friday my town shoot out Friday fave fives Willy Nilly Friday Five on Friday

scattering acorns for peace

Image
When the oak is felled the whole forest echoes with its fall,  but a hundred acorns are sown in silence  by an unnoticed breeze. -Thomas Carlyle John Lennon and Yoko Ono began a project back in 1969 that they called Acorn Peace they sent out 2 acorns in a transparent box to various world leaders in hopes that they would be planted as seeds of peace. In 2009, 40 years later, Yoko Ono once again sent out 2 acorns to world leaders. We are the acorns We are the sowers of peace seeds We are mighty oaks in forest woods We are the unnoticed breeze ~ ~ ~ scatter acorns when you walk scatter acorns when you talk scatter acorns when you cook scatter acorns with a look scatter acorns when you sing let an acorn be your bling scatter acorns when you teach scatter acorns at the beach scatter acorns in the park scatter acorns as a lark scatter acorns on your bike as you ride with your friend Mike

t ~ ~ ~ Proverbs 17:6 Grandchildren are the crown of the aged and the glory of children is their fathers My first grandchild, my mum's first great-grandchild, and my daughter's first child Verne Oliveira born 12 October, 2016 the sweetest boy in all the world Scripture and a snapshot spiritual Sundays Sundays at home

First off, the star of the show, Verne Raymond Oliveira  my beautiful grandson born on 12 October, 2016 4 generations After we got the call, I tried to call my mum, to let her know, but couldn't get in touch with her. She can't get pictures on her cell phone so we printed off pictures and drove to her house to tape them to her wall so she would see them. She had just come home and was so happy to hear the news and see the baby. While we were there my daughter called and gave the all clear for us to come and meet the baby. So, we brought my mum with us! She was so excited because she wouldn't have been able to drive an hour to the hospital herself. My poor sweet daughter had a rough time during delivery. She was in labor for over 24 hours and after pushing for 3.5 hours they finally did a c-section at noon yesterday. I suppose the rest of the world spins on -sun rises and sets, rain falls, clouds come over and clear again..
