But I am like a green olive tree
in the house of God
Psalm 52:8

This was the verse of the day in my bible reading plan
on the birthday of my step-daughter.
She died on 28 February, 2016.
She would have been 23 this month.

t Let the children come to me, and do not hinder them
for to such belong the children of God.....

26 August

the weather has cooled off a bit -
temperatures are in the lower 80 which is about 15 degrees  lower than they have been
and the humidity is about normal again.
Evenings are cooler and I've been having apples and cheeses
as a light dinner when I get home from work

The tansy is blooming in the fields. I love it's little yellow buttons
it looks so pretty next to the Queen Anne's Lace.

I went to the Salem Jazz and Soul Fest on Saturday with my mum and sister.
My brother is a co-founder of the event.
 We ran into some cousins from my father's side of the family while we were there.
We hadn't seen them in years and years!

 Sunday my eldest daughter and I went to Theatre in the Open
to see a very intimate production of King Lear
in the park.

I snapped a picture of my daughter while she wasn't looking.
She's so beautiful and smart.

25 August

My daughter, Hannah, and I went to the Theatre in the open on Sunday evening.
The walk through the wood was lined with flags

We spread out on the hillside with rather an intimate audience.
King Lear

Sadly, things did not end well for the ladies Goneril or Regan...

or almost any one else as it turns out....

The evening breeze picked up through the branches and rustled the leaves
at the most opportune moments in the production...
almost as if Shakespeare himself were there directing the elements.

Tuesday Afternoon

of a sunny afternoon in August
we ventured into Marblehead and walked the old fort

the good
 One evening about ten years ago, my brother and some friends were sitting at a bar in Salem, MA
lamenting the fact that there were no good music festivals there.
So....they started the Salem Jazz and Soul Fest.
Ten years later he is now one of the co-founders and the executive director.

They have donated over 50,000 dollars to the North Shore public schools music programs!

the fun

My sister was here over the weekend and we brought her dog, Sadie, to Dog beach!
Although we had a doggie frisbee and a tennis ball, Sadie preferred to wade into the water,
find a clam shell, drag it back in with her feet, duck completely under water, and then pick it up
and run into shore with it!
So silly!!
the random

Yesterday while I was there with my mum and sister,
we bumped into some of our Claflin cousins!
We hadn't seen some of them in over 20 years!
Turns out one of them was volunteering at the SJSF that afternoon!

Psalm 47:6
Sing praises to God, sing praises! Sing praises to our King, sing praises!

My brother is a founder and creator of  the Salem Jazz and Soul Fest in Salem, MA.
Every summer they put on a series of free concerts
culminating on the third weekend in August in Salem Willows
from 11:00 to 7:00 on both Saturday and Sunday!
They work with  Berkley school of music in Boston
and have many really great bands from all over the country.
Salem Willows is a huge park which sticks out into the Atlantic ocean
so the stage is surrounded by beautiful majestic scenery.
But, the most important part....
All monies raised go to the Salem public schools music department!
They have raised thousands of dollars in the ten seasons they have been doing this!
It's very exciting!

19 August

My mum had an impromptu lobster dinner the other night
Joe and I, my brother and his girlfriend, and my mum
It was delicious!!

Before we went to my mum's house
we went to one of the rocky beaches in Marblehead.

Screeching Lady's Cove....

so named because a very long time ago

a woman who had been captured by pirates

escaped one night when the pirates put ashore

and after drinking and pillaging the village of Marblehead

they came back and found her on the beach and killed her

to this day on stormy nights she can be heard screaming
is a link to the story

There were a great many hermit crabs....
I didn't get a photo of any of them, but I did capture the hunt.

I was standing knee deep in the water when I took this picture

of the lighthouse across the harbor.

It happened that there were a great many boats in the water that afternoon.
There may have been a race going on...I'm not sure.
But there were very pretty to look at.

KJV Psalm 39:12
~~~ Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear unto my cry; Hold not thy peace at my tears: For I am a stranger with thee, and a sojourner, as all my fathers were.
... Jesus sought me when a stranger
Wandering from the fold of God
O to grace how great a debtor daily I'm constrained to be!
Let thy grace now, like a fetter, bind my wandering heart to thee
Prone to wander Lord I feel it, prone to leave the God I love
Here's my heart, O take and seal it, seal it for thy courts above.
... Come thou fount of every blessing
tune my heart to sing thy grace
11 August
early morning sunlight
I bought the chair for twenty-five cents at a tag sale
my sister and I stopped at after visiting our mum one afternoon.
I love to imagine it as part of a matching set around an old wooden table
somebody's grandmother spreading cherry preserves on a piece of homemade toast
and hanging her apron over one of the posts.
At my house it captures the early morning sunlight
jars full of green and blue sea-glass on the windowsills
frisbees brought in from the evening prior
and an old crazy quilt I keep meaning to finish....
It's one of my favorite pieces of furniture in the house
and it's just a little thing
my momma tried to instill good sense in me
irascible as she was
Lord knows I took a toll on her
but mmm mmm mmm momma
I just can't contain the thrill that man has over me
He's standing  just outside my bedroom window
and he ain't singing nothing but sin
my body trills with the timber of his song
grass crunching under my feet as I step toward him
I lay down naked in the moonlit mint
and let him play
the good
 My sister, unexpectedly,  came to visit this past weekend.
She and I and our mother spent time together.
We went out for dinner on the deck of a local place.
And then we walked over to the State Street wharf where a nice gentleman
offered to take our picture.
the fun
I recently purchased a fit-bit and I've been having a lot of fun with it.
I like that I can wear it at work because I do quite a bit of walking at work. Toddlers move...a lot!
the random
My beautiful daughter is expecting my first grandchild at the beginning of October!
Only two more months to go....I am so excited to meet that little guy!
