Tuesday Afternoon
there is only one of these chairs as I purchased it at a yard sale for $2.00.
I imagine there was once a set around a big farmhouse kitchen table.
Women sat down to rest with a cup of tea after making lunch for a crowd,
grandmothers wiped flour off the seat after making a pie crust at Thanksgiving,
or wiped tears from their eyes when sadness and grief came into the home,
children sat and did homework, and the men came in to eat mashed potatoes
and roasted chicken....
anyway, I love the way it looks at at the sunny window in my kitchen.
Today it's grey and Canadian geese are hunkered down in the field across the way.
My daughter made the indian dream catcher for me -the seaglass I pick up as I walk the beach.
There's a sprig of rosemary I rooted from a bunch I bought at the community gardens,
the bittersweet is from the path to the beach
and of course there are piles of books.

Good Morning, Kara. Thank you for hosting. I always enjoy reading your posts. Have a great day.
ReplyDeleteWhat a lovely view evoking such memories...perfect especially with the homemade dream catcher!
ReplyDeleteI love your description of what 'might have been' for the chair. I have a similar one that I have often thought about all the people who might have sat and what they might have been thinking and experiencing.....
ReplyDeleteLove your display! I am thankful to have a garland of bittersweet hanging with a garland of schizandra berries in my front window looking out through a newly twisted grapevine wreath at the remains of the colorful Autumn leaves. Aloha to you this fine day!
ReplyDeleteSimple, lovely, and worth taking the time to reflect upon.
ReplyDeleteI love your imaginings about the chair!
ReplyDeleteWhat a beautiful photo and lovely view.....lovely thoughts about the chair too...I often wish buildings could tell us what has gone before.
