sunlight on pumpkins
late afternoon sunlight graces the dining room
I love the time change.
I love the late afternoon sunlight
it reminds me of the school bus dropping my children off from school.
They would take off their sweaters and tiny blue sneakers
I would start dinner while they had a snack
the sun would set while we ate at the kitchen table
I love the idea of having everyone closing in as the day ends
all your loved ones gathered at close of day.
Splintered sunlight streaming through the windows
and lighting on the pumpkins.

Your narrative reminds me of Longfellow's poem, The Children's Hour:
ReplyDeleteBetween the dark and the daylight,
When the night is beginning to lower,
Comes a pause in the day's occupations,
That is known as the Children's Hour.
The sun shinning on the pumpkins is so pretty. But I don't like the time change, less sun everyday and gets dark too soon for me. Dinner time, the day winding down is something I enjoy and makes me feel all comfy inside. Enjoy your day!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photo. I'm thankful for the sunlight, most I like the late afternoon, it's often golden...
ReplyDeleteHave a nice weekend
I love the end of day gatherings too. Especially on Fridays when we have the whole weekend to look forward to together. The sunlight this time of year is especially beautiful too. Wishing you a wonderful weekend!
ReplyDeletespiritofsimplicity,
ReplyDeleteI adore your "sugar" pumpkins lined up at the tabletop!!!
I wonder. . .will them become pumpkin pies???
Thank you for the gentle reminders of busy days with children at home!!!
I appreciate your kind words and sweet visit recently!!!
Fondly,
Pat
I'm loving the time change and the change in light, too; this gathering-in time. Beautiful words and picture.♥
