giving thanks
it is not a little thing to be with the ones you love
Here we are as in olden days
Happy golden days of yore
faithful friends who are dear to us
gather near to us once more
through the years we all will be together
if the fates allow....
~
At the edges of our celebrations are the memories
of those who are no longer with us.
I can see them in the way a young girl's eyes twinkle
or the expression on your cousin's face
that looks just like a grandfather...
or a special taste to the gravy
or apricot squares
mince pie with hard sauce
watching Christmas Vacation late night
when almost everyone has gone home
~~~
Have yourself a Merry Little Christmas is my favorite Christmas song
because it acknowledges the heartbreak and sadness that we share sometimes
it remembers that we may not always be together
but that the most important thing
is that we have one another now
I am listening to old carols now as I prepare
the vegetables for our dinner later this afternoon
I am anticipating being with family and friends
Happy Thanksgiving to you all
the vegetables for our dinner later this afternoon
I am anticipating being with family and friends
Happy Thanksgiving to you all
A beautiful texturized still life and the poem is beautiful Happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteBreaking out the carols today! (Happy dance!)
ReplyDeleteHappy Thanksgiving, hope you had a wonderful evening together.
ReplyDeleteI enjoy the simplicity of your blog posts ... they bring a feeling of peace and rest when I visit.
ReplyDeleteEnjoyed learning about your favourite Christmas song and why. I've been humming bits and pieces of carols and songs around here too. Learning a piano version of Chestnuts Roasting right now, which is a delight to play ... love all the great chords in it.
Wishing you a beautiful weekend...
Brenda
