on sand dollars and loss

This has been a summer of loss for us.

My aunt died at the beginning of the season and I found sand dollar on the beach

as I walked on the morning of her services.

An old friend died in the middle of the summer and I found another sand dollar

as I walked the beach a few days later.

On two different occasions I found two other sand dollars

and thought it must have been coincidence

but...

My landlord, who was a sweet, friendly old man, died not long ago

and just a few days ago a very old friend died.

I believe that the universe has a way of responding to the

ripples in its waves.

These are the only sand dollars I've seen on the beaches since I was a little girl.

And, while I appreciate the sentiment and the beauty,

I'm hoping not to see anymore for quite some time.

won't you come with me and see the beauty of

Thankful, with you, for those serendipitous gifts of the beach.

  3. I am so sorry for your loss. It is hard to lose someone, but to have more than one in a year is more heartbreaking. My Husband has lost three close friends in the last 3 years. There are so many legends concerning the sand dollar. In the christian religion sand dollar represents the birth, death and resurrection of Jesus Christ
