into the kitchen

I drove my mum down into Connecticut over the weekend to visit with my sister.

We went to the Mark Twain house in Hartford.

It was beautiful and very, very opulent...

He married into money and his wife's family financed

their family home, which they moved into in 1874.

My very favorite part of the entire home was the kitchen

this is often the case when i am touring mansions...

I love the soft wood on the floors and tables and cabinets.

I love the way the sunshine comes through the windows.

Unfortunately, we were not allowed to photograph inside the home.

This is a photo I pulled from on line.

~

As lovely as it was to spend time with my sister and our mum

I was never so happy to drive up the causeway and walk into my very own kitchen.

~well....Joe had accidentally locked  the door, and because we took mum's car I didn't have my keys.

And, because he works nights he was asleep when I got home.

So, I  had to bang on the door with my foot, and ring him 87 times on his telephone,

and call him all kinds of a feckin' eejeet before he finally woke up

and opened the darn door~

It is cooler here today and has been raining intermittently so it really feels like Autumn.

I watered the plants

and set the kitchen in order

made some bread

put some lentils and onions on to boil

I suppose I am a bit off track

my mums are planted in a pot set on the kitchen table

and not really in a vase

 But it is Monday....

so, there you go....

"Keep away from people who try to belittle your ambitions.
Small people always do that, but the really great,
make you feel that you, too, can become great."
 Mark Twain

  2. Ah, fall flowers on the table and onions and lentils on the stove. Sounds like a perfect start to the week. (I've had the same thing happen where my husband could not hear me ringing the bell and knocking. Guys can sleep through anything.)

  3. I adore Mark Twain and have for a long time both in his sayings and writings. Isn't that just how it goes when we are a bit off schedule...luckily my husband has hidden a key outside the house as I have been locked out too. Mums make the perfect vase in pot or otherwise.

  8. I loved your tale. Maybe you need to hide a key somewhere? Men seem to wake when you wish they'd sleep quietly and sleep like the dead when you need them to spring into action.

  9. I'm trying to imagine the wonders of a kitchen with such big windows. Men can sleep through anything. I like your mums, they always mean fall to me. The Mark Twain quote is right on, there are so many negative people in the world. Cute Mark Twain figure.

  10. I love the quote from Mark Twain. Ain't that the very truth and said only the way he could say it. Kitchens do somehow get the greatest light in the house!
