Proverbs 6:8

she prepares her bread in the summer,
and gathers her food in harvest

dill grows in the kitchen gardens

the scent of it rises when my skirts brush against it

garden dirt is dry and warm beneath my bare feet

I gather the harvest in the old-fashioned basket

that Susan left when she was last here

and leave it on the wooden table in the hall

the yellow blossoms stand in a jar that once held capers

air is heavy

but it won't rain until later this evening, if at all

tomorrow afternoon I will make the refrigerator pickles that Joe likes

in  large green mason jars

and set some of the dill aside to mix with plain yoghurt

for a dressing
