Marjoram park
I am planning a late afternoon picnic.
at my favorite park on our rather tiny island
It's always quite there...
it is old and sits on the side of the sea near the wharf
there is a small rocky beach for scrambling about,
a path up the little hill and into the wood where
a bench sits on a small cliff,
and down on the grass is this beautiful table.
Joe is starting a new job this week after a year of working
an interim job where he was less than happy.
I want to celebrate with a serendipitous
picnic in the park
I am the keeper of our home
serendipitous for my family means there will be some planning on my part
I do not use "one time" only things, so plastic and paper are not for us
I will fill our old picnic basket with white china plates,
cloth napkins, our daily use silverware,
and mason jars with lemonade and sweet tea.
Early in the afternoon, I will stop by the community gardens
and pick some of the wild flowers to grace the table.
The old wedding ring quilt will serve as a tablecloth.
We will entertain ourselves with frisbee,
and perhaps a race over the rocks.
After we eat, a jump off the wharf into the Atlantic.
Just before twilight we will amble up the hilly path to the bench on the cliff
and watch the sun setting over the ocean
none of this will cost us a cent
the time we spend together is priceless
it is how I show my love to my family
it is how we open up our hearts with Jah
it is the very basis of every single thing that matters in our lives
the time we spend out of doors
with no mad rush to the next event,
with no artificial entertainment
just grace and one another
of an evening

a merry heart has a continual feast

ReplyDeleteWhat a wonderful way to celebrate life! There is nothing like a picnic. Beautiful! Happy Monday!
ReplyDeleteYou make your picnic sound so wonderful and I like the idea of no disposables. It makes the table and whole outing more special when china and glass are packed to be spread out on a cozy quilt.
