30 March

rains burst out of the heavens with a low growl
healing rains that pulled apart
any roots she had in this small town

she had made no plans

but it was time for her to mend

as she pulled her packed car
into a row of traffic
she noticed that she was no longer shivering

what is that

there is some debate about what this really is

Joey and I believe it is part of an old pirate ship

that sunk long ago and washed up on the beach

some of us (whose names we won't mention here)

believe it is simply part of an old dock

either way it makes for really cool photography opportunities

the last of the birthday cake...yum

on the road

this is the old coast guard station across the road from our house

28 march

I live in Massachusetts and grew up in a town, in fact once lived in a house, that was  built in the 1600s.
This is not the oldest building in town.
It is the Old Coast Guard Station.
It was build in 1898 and given to the town by the coast guard in the 1970s.
It is used for the American Legion and town events now. It is directly across the
street from our house. The first and third pictures of it are from our porch.

When she came home  the only sign of him she saw
was a 6-pack of Amstel light with
5 bottles in it She saw him through the window sitting on the wreck of the old pirate ship timbers  facing the sun sinking over the Atlantic The green bottle reflecting the last of the dying embers  as he raised it to his mouth She watched him for a minute or two enjoying the view before grabbing a second bottle  and heading out the door  down the path to the beach
For the past few days we have been watching a coast guard cutter anchored out in the
harbor of the next town over

They tell us it was at the ready in case of emergency during the storm.

I've lived here 50 years and never seen such a thing

not even during the blizzard of '78

They tell us it is going to be in the 60s this weekend.

that is about 45 degrees warmer than it has been this past week.
Ben and Jerry's coffee heath bar crunch is in the top 5 ice cream

flavors ever invented...just saying
I don't like to share…

tiny green orb glistens in the morning sunlight
a walk on the beach of a morning
offers many gifts
spinning spheres
fresh from the sea
from where did it's journey start
how did it end up on this beach
dug from the sand by my peasant fingers

23 march

they saw him riding his pink bicycle toward the redemption center

a quartet of bags slung over the back tire like an old-time cowboy

are filled with empty Heinekens he picked out of the trash on the better side of town

the irony of his good taste does not escape us and the green glass

clinks together as he rides

toasting the land of plenty they are headed into -a nickel a bottle -

his odor au-natural a warning for anyone who might consider getting too close

his hands sting in the cold march winds

breaks grind to a slow stop as he approaches the edge of a busy street

this does not rival any other city

-the addition of government programs not with-standing

broken people line the pot-holed streets

and, of course, the response is quick and blunt

get a job

16 march

there are green wicker chairs in my living room
beyond them is the tower of the old coast guard station
at night the cities across the water look like small strips of light
glistening in the distance
plopped down here with friends
we squeeze the last drop of wine out of the bottle
and nibble on apples and cheeses
perhaps you will cut us some slack
as we fuss about our futures
it's easy to forget
that we are all dust

winter will not go down easily
the ocean continues to freeze
~ i am on spring break this week
i have plans to catch up on paperwork
and get outside with my camera ~ the boys will be with us this weekend
we are looking forward to the company of one another
~ I am watching The Fugitive Kind with Marlon Brando
It is the first time I've seen it though I used to watch
old movies all the time
I love the way that old film looks
our movies have become so dumb

Of course this movie is filled with sex and violence

but there is a plot and some character development

What we miss when we remove those things ~

every opportunity an obligation,
every possession a duty."

Deep peace of the running wave to you.
Deep peace of the flowing air to you.
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you.
Deep peace of the shining stars to you.
Deep peace of the gentle night to you.
Moon and stars pour their healing light on you

silver maples grew in rows outside and the leaves blew in the wind

catching the light here and there

she stood in the sunny kitchen window watching them.

She was wearing the hand me down cotton dress her sister had worn last summer but

it was jelly stained now from the doughnuts they had baked.

Who does that anyway? Wasn't there a freakin' doughnut shop on every corner

around here?

Lately she had been thinking about what a long, strange trip it had all been...

but sometimes in life you've got to celebrate the misses.
