leaves are falling all around

It is stormy this morning and dark still

here and there headlights from the

 

cars that leave early for work come down the curved hill 

out of the little village

 and onto the causeway that will take them past my house and off island 

into the city

last night just at twilight the fog crept in and covered the empty field

now the wind is blowing heavy raindrops against the kitchen windows

while i sit here at the table in the lamplight

with my coffee
