Wednesday word challenge

the stars were edgy
they thrust their drumbeat
into the night sky
rapidly
with sharp finesse

like crickets
banging out a cryptic calypso
the moon was a souffle
she believed would
rise and follow

masters of her childhood universe
they had  leverage on her soul

she was not so fancy now that she had climbed
in her fairy tale carriage
and stood on the precipice

now that she knew

childhoods can be broken
and crickets have a peppery bite
