The rhythm of a simple home
~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~ ~
The house is filled with piles of old books.
Here and there a newer book makes it's way in.
N. Scott Momady is one of my favourites and I purchased the book on top of the stack
at the library book fair many years ago.
Leaves: Their Place in Life and Legend.
The title enough is enough to make me swoon
not to mention the frontispiece illustrations are just beautiful.
Some folks decorate with witches or skeletons but for me it's always been books...
Once Autumn is over I will take out the winter and Christmas books
but for now I have the Autumn-ish books piled up on the bureau in the living room
and I dream of reading under an old Maple tree
watching colourful leaves dancing their way down to the ground.

The weather...
It is rainy and cool here this morning, there is an autumn breeze blowing up fromthe harbour but it is quiet and cozy with a small lamp lit against
the gloom and an apple scented candle filling our small home with it's cheer.
Right now I am...
Considering breakfast, perhaps a bowl of oatmeal with my morning coffee.
Thinking...
I will have to get back to you on that because it's ever so early still. I'm sure there is something happening in my brain but I can't quite put my finger on what it is yet.
On my reading pile...
A book of poetry called Leaning toward the Light, a book of gardens and gardeners.
On my TV...
nothing.
Favorite blog post last week (mine or other)....
Something fun to share...
I walked the wood the other morning and noticed a large mushroom. When I came back the same way some little critter or other had flipped it over. It was so interesting on the back side.
On my to do list....
pay bills, clean the bathtub...one of my least favorite chores
In the craft basket...
I am not much of a crafter but at this time of year I like to decorate my home...
does that count?
Looking forward to this week....
cooler weather and the changing of the autumn leaves
Looking around the house....
I spent the weekend rearranging and deep cleaning. It looks so pretty and calm in here. I've cleared the chaos of summer away to make way for cozy autumn.
From the camera....
On my prayer list.....
My sister who suffers with cancer, my children, my grandchildren, my brother and his wife, my husband.
Bible verse, Devotional....

Let us not become weary in doing good, for at the proper time
we will reap a harvest if we do not give up.
Galations 6:9

That's one of my favorite verses!
ReplyDeleteI really like this other blog, and will be returning later to check it out better. I am heading to amazon to check out your two books. Perhaps I will buy at least one. What a wonderful idea to decorate with books!
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful post full of the sweet routines of your day.
ReplyDeleteYou asked on my blog if I I read Celia Thaxter's book? Yes! Almost 20 years ago when we lived in NY we visited New Hampshire on a summer trip with our daughter who was then in her junior year of college. She wanted to see Lake Winnipesauke so we drove to NH, stayed in Portsmouth, and all then around NH. We drove up Mt Washington --our first experience with driving up a high mountain and I have to say it was a bit scary!! We saw Hawthorne's "Old Man of the Mountains" just a few years before he crumbled down. We drove the scenic Kancamagus Highway. where we saw a moose!, and of course we went to the lake. The highlight of the trip, however, was a boat cruise around the isles of Sholas where we visited Celia's Thaxter's Appledore Island! It was so beautiful! All in all it was a very memorable trip. Your were fortunate to live in such a beautiful state.
Love the idea of decorating with books! I do have a few Christmas ones for the grankids. Had a great time visiting - have a great week
