Good simple woman

For today
16 May, 2020
Outside my window...The sun has just risen, turning a muted pink and purple sky into a brilliant blue. The Cardinals are loud and cheery. They wake me every day at dawn now. Just outside my bedroom window they hop from the gnarly branches of the low growing pine in the yard next door. Earlier I heard the seagulls down at the harbour calling out to the lobster and fishing boats heading out for the day. Now, songbirds are starting their morning songs and gathering at the feeders that are interspersed throughout the neighborhood.
I am thinking...of how much longer we will be in quarantine and how we will handle the beginning of reopening. It seems as if every place you go has a different set of rules and it’s difficult to make much sense of it all. Good old fashioned common sense seems to be lacking.
I am thankful for...the quietude and calm that has descended upon us all during this time. As I lay in bed last night I noticed the silence. So peaceful.
I am wearing...jeans, a cotton T-shirt that says Grateful on it and a burgundy Hoodie.
I am going...to have an ice cream after lunch.
I am reading...Wilding, Returning nature to our farm by Isabella Tree
I am hoping...that the weather will get warmer soon. It feels like March has been three months long.
On my mind...mostly the back garden.
Pondering these words...there is no charm equal to tenderness of heart.
From the kitchen...roasted vegetables: eggplant, carrots, zucchini, onion, and garlic with navy beans and orzo. Also, fresh flounder with broccoli and brown basmati rice...and raspberry sorbet. But not all on the same day.
Around the house...We just got a new bed. I’m very happy with it but I wish I could leave the house and go to work so I would be able to come home after a long day and go to sleep in it. Somehow being stuck at home doesn’t make me very tired.
In the garden...The daffodils have gone by, there is one rosebud which I have been watching every morning to see when it will bloom, the Alliums will be popping forth in blossom very soon. I’ve just transplanted some bright pink coneflower and planted a pink Bee Balm which I purchased on Mother’s Day.
One of my favourite things...The smell of fresh air in the house.
I am creating...a charmed life.
A few plans for the week...I hope to be able to get up to my daughter’s house to visit with my grandchildren. Hopefully there will be one day next week that will be nice enough for us to picnic in her hard since we are still social distancing here.
A favourite quote...The Violets in the mountains have broken up the rocks.
Beautiful thoughts! I like the running record of what is going on where you live in and around your house. I hope you have a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteI feel you on the bed and not being tired at home. It gets very stressful when you can's spend your energy working. Such an important part of every day life.

There is so much joy in simply noticing our life.
ReplyDeleteSimply and beautifully written. I enjoyed reading your thoughts. I also love hearing the birds start their singing in the mornings. We have a wood thrush around here that sings a lovely song all throughout the day. Blessings to you! I'm your neighbor at #ASimpleWomansDaybook
