Keeping Sabbath

They will not hunger or thirst anymore,
nor will the sun or any heat strike them.
For the lamb who is in the center of the throne will shepherd them
and lead them to springs of life-giving water,
and God will wipe away every tear from their eyes.
Revelation 7:16-17
Perhaps those of us who are missing a loved one this year
will find some comfort in this verse.
Even if I can't be the one to do it, I know that God will wipe their tears away
and they will rest easy in his loving arms.

My absolute favorite Christmas song is
Have yourself a merry little Christmas.
It's so poignant.
I sometimes imagine that this year could be the year they refer to when they say,
"Next year all our troubles will be out of sight."
"Through the years we all will be together...if the fates allow."
But we don't know what the fates will allow
or who will be with us next year, or even tomorrow.
So hold hands, and say I love you, and forgive.
It's not about the turkey or the table settings.
Yes, forgiveness is the gift we give to ourselves.
ReplyDeleteAnd everyone else benefits as well.
Next time I hear your favorite carol, I'll be paying better attention to the words. (And I won't have to wait long, because whenever I ride with the 16 year old, the carols are playing on the radio!)
Amen! And a beautiful & powerful reminder.
ReplyDeleteThere could not be better advice for Thanksgiving than to "hold hands, say I love you, and forgive". Give your loved ones an extra hug for me! Happy Thanksgiving.
ReplyDeleteLove the shot of Tom Turkey, but I especially love the verses you shared today. I often think of that passage of Scripture when mourning the death of loved ones.
ReplyDeleteMy heart longs for that day when Jesus wipes our tears and His redemption is fully seen in His creation!
ReplyDeleteYou are so right, it is not about the turkey, the meal, or any of that. It is about being thankful! God loves us to be thankful, and it also adds to our joy, it is good for the soul. I am thankful that I found you again, after so many years!!!
ReplyDeleteI love that song as well, partly because we live so far from family and always hope that a Christmas season will come when we can all be together. May God bless you this holiday season.
