morning practice

joy comes with the morning

t

lauds

Open my eyes and I shall fix my gaze
on the wonders of your law

~ ~ ~

Open my lips, O Lord
and my mouth shall declare your praise

To everything there is a season

and a time for every purpose under heaven

My planner is before me at my desk.

I map out my day

as I sip my tea.

I begin my day with devotions.

With mindfulness I do my morning chores.

I water the plants, feed the cat, do each day's housekeeping.

Each day has an pattern of its own,

a chore, a scent, a colour, a food to prepare and eat.

Monday: clean bedroom, make soup
Tuesday: clean kitchen, make a casserole
Wednesday: clean bathroom, make seafood or a veggie dish
Thursday: clean living room, make something in the crockpot
Friday, catch up, make seafood or veggies
Saturday: vacuum, market, laundry, leftovers or date nigth
Sunday: rest

I light a candle for the day.

Morning sunlight fills our home,

it fills the fields across the way,

it glistens on the mighty Atlantic,

it glistens on the tea in my cup.

~ ~ ~

let the heavens be glad,
and let the earth rejoice;
let the sea roar, and all that fills it;
let the field exult, and everything in it!
Then shall all the trees of the forest
sing for joy before the Lord

I shower, and dress, I brush my teeth.

I make our bed and pick up errant clothing.

I put my breakfast dishes in the sink

and sweep the crumbs off the soapstone table.

I gather the things I will need for the day.

I blow a kiss to the cat

as I close the door.

Terce will find me at work

 well into my day of teaching toddlers...

laughter and tears and hugging,

 sweet little eyes that look to me

to help them find the way.

for you shall go out in joy
and be led forth in peace;
the mountains and the hills
before you shall break forth into singing,
and all of the trees of the field shall clap their hands.

  2. Beautiful, beautiful words. And I love your pictures of the sea and sky! Sounds like you teach pre-school. My daughter-in law did that at her church. Also you are so thankful AND organized! I love reading the routine of your day. The earth has so much beauty, and God put it all here just for US.

  5. I love the simplicity with which you live. I'm inspired by it. I try to do it all each day, and I love the way you've got it parsed out among the days. --- And, that morning sunlight...there's nothing like it, is there? Sunrises are my favorite. :) Thanks for sharing with #ChasingCommunity this week; lovely to connect. ((hug))
