Keeping Sabbath

She is not afraid of snow for her household,

for all her household are clothed in scarlet.

~ ~ ~

We ran out of heating oil during a huge blizzard on Thursday.

I am typing on Saturday wearing three layers,

fingerless gloves, and a woolen scarf...

while under 2 down blankets, a flannel-wool quilt,

and my cat, Tucker, curled upon my feet.

We have a space heater going in the bedroom and it is 42 degrees in the living room!

The wind is absolutely howling outside and I can see it

moving my curtains even through the new-ish windows.

I am waiting on the oil guy.

They told me they would be here yesterday so I waited all day....

They tell me they will be here by 2 today....and so I wait.

They are busy and working straight through till midnight.

I find some comfort that we are not alone.

According to Alexa it's 6 degrees but is expected to go down to -7 tonight.

That doesn't include the wind chill which, I am told, puts it down to about -13.

We should have checked the oil tank at the beginning of the week.

We knew of the upcoming storm.

We knew that it had been very cold so we were going through the oil

much faster than usual.

We just didn't think we were going through it that quickly!

Never again.

From now on I will be wearing strength and dignity

(while I check the oil tank)

and laughing at the time to come.....

Scripture and a Snapshot

We have oil of Saturday evening.

There were tankers of oil lined up on the horizon

waiting to for the seas to calm down enough

to come into port safely.

thank you so much for all your kind wishes.

  1. Never again--yes, experience! Stay warm!

  2. Wishing you warmth and coziness! Praying oil has been delivered and you are now well and toasty! Blessings to you!

  3. WOW! Fun post but then not so funny. Hope they got your heat running, and hoping you get some warm days soon.

  4. What a beautiful post, full of joy even in the midst of what I would consider horrific circumstances. I'm cold and miserable (and whiney) when it's below 65.

  5. So glad to hear you got your oil by the time I read your post! Hope your home is back up to a habitable temp! Lesson learned, right?

  6. glad you now have the oil that makes warmth. We have been in those shoes in the past. Hubby just mentioned this past week that he hoped our propane guy was keeping tabs on ours and of course, he didn't go look. The propane guy showed up a few days later. We were in the single and minus digits too so my prayer was for the electric to stay on for everyone. You guys had it much worse. I cannot wait for Spring. :)

    Happy New Year

  7. What a pretty picture. It's been really cold here and foggy in the mornings, but not as cold as your area. Bundle up and stay warm. ; )
