Advent

1
The season of Advent.

It's my favorite time of year.

Please be extra kind to everyone.

We are all fighting battles, stressed out, sad, hurried, broke and or broken....

This time of year can be difficult

This is why it's so important to be kinder than necessary.

God make my life a little light Within the world to glow A little flame that burneth bright Wherever I may go.

I put the tree up last weekend.

It's much too early....I hope it lasts till Christmas day.

We buy from the PTO fundraiser on our rather tiny island.

The stand is just across the street and we walk home carrying our Christmas tree.

On Saturdays and Sundays the lot fills up with happy families.

They pull wagons through the wooded path

and the children pull their trees home in them...all red and green and laughing.

They pile out of red and white SUV's...children running through the rows

to find the perfect tree.

Then they load the trees onto the tops of their vehicles and drive home to untangle the lights...

It's like a Hallmark movie!

 The dollhouse

I was gifted an old dollhouse from work.

I'm going to give it a nice paint job

and leave it at my house for Verne and any future grandchildren

to play with when they visit.

I had to carry it home on the subway which was rather silly looking....

Verne met Santa and made the front page of the local paper.

It was fairly clear that he enjoyed Santa more from the safety of his father's arms.

  3. Merry Christmas. How fun to have decorated your tree already. Decorations certainly add a festive air to a home. And Verne's face does show the wonder of the season. I love how you incorporated the new-to-you doll house into the Christmas tree vignette. When we were on the subway recently, we saw a passenger manhandling a package taller than he was.
I like your reminder about being kinder than normal to those around us. As mush joy as there is during this season, there is also a lot more stress than normal.
    Have a blessed week.

  4. Funny about Verne and Santa! That's so neat to have a local tree lot like that. I thought the same thing - it seemed so early to put the tree up, and I hope it makes it through the month ok. What a neat dollhouse!

  6. Oh Verne is SO cute! And it's his first Christmas--all that wonder!
I love that doll house. Even if it felt silly to be carrying it on the subway, you were most likely the envy of numerous people who were wishing they could own it.
    Have a great week!

  7. Oh, I have been wanting a doll house for a long time. This one is charming, and will look nice when painted and finished. Your grandson is precious and what a treasured picture. Just catching up on your sweet and sincere posts tonight. I really do love them.
