Seeking Sabbath

Galations
5:25
If we live by the spirit, let us also keep in step with the spirit.
It's easy to talk the talk but can we walk the walk?
Sometimes in the early morning, I walk Revere beach while I wait for my husband's train
to come into the station. You can see the rather tiny sort-of an island
where we live on the horizon.
Those who know of such things put up beach fences
to keep the world from tramping over God's little birds in their nests.
But, the wind and the waves knock them over as the season progresses.
After a while it can be difficult to decipher which side of the fence
our steps are falling on....
The line between the world and the spirit
is twisted and curved and fallen down in spots
and beaten and battered
and shifted sometimes so slightly that you hardly even notice...
We must be constantly testing ourselves,
examining our hearts, seeking wisdom.
I love Galations.
I love the way Paul opens our hearts and our minds
not without a firm hand,
and yet gentle and subtle enough so that it seeps in
like the light from a candle or a sweet song
it turns me back to the humbleness of where I should be.
Because God is so powerful
I fall to my knees to ask for forgiveness for my haughty ways
and feel my steps lighten and become filled with joy as I redirect them.
Yes, so true!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful.
ReplyDeleteBeautiful thoughts... it is a constant battle between our will and the spirit of Christ within us, but the peace that passeth understanding comes when we align our will with His. I find that being outside in the world our Lord created and looking upward brings my heart closer to Him. Your little island sounds very beautiful :)
ReplyDeleteI LOVE this!: "After a while it can be difficult to decipher which side of the fence
ReplyDeleteour steps are falling on...." This is so true in life. I takes a gentle hand to lead me back to the right sight of the fence. Thank you for sharing with me today and thank you for reminding me that God's hand can be gentle.
Beautiful in every way!
ReplyDeleteSo beautifully and gently said. It made me want to walk that beach with you!
ReplyDeleteGod's gentle yet firm hand that opens us up, draws us near to Him, opens our blind eyes, and keeps us in His love is absolutely incredible. <3 And living on a little island sounds beautiful.
ReplyDeleteThis is beautiful, my friend.
