a fair wind over my shoulder
keyhole
I feel old
I'm not complaining
I have a happy life
and I celebrate every birthday with great joy
I'm just saying
I feel old
in my younger days
i danced barefoot on the beach
and walked up wooded paths in the moonlight
i do that still
I look at the world I grew up in through a key hole
So many of those who shaped me
are on the other side
and one day I will join them
but now I live in a world that is rapidly becoming unfamiliar
my music is dying
my poets, my teachers, even the way I form letters has gone...
one day I will peep through the key hole and see that
everything and everyone I knew is there
I am not so very old yet
but tonight
i feel old
It's not a sad thing
and I don't feel bad
I am privileged to have lived in such an amazing time
It's such a beautiful ride
WOODEN SHIPS
exerts
by Paul Kantner, David Crosby and Stephen Stills
Wooden ships on the water very free and easy
Easy you know the way it's supposed to be
Silver people on the shoreline let us be
Talking 'bout very free and easy
Go take your sister then by the hand
Lead her away from the foreign land
Far away where we might laugh again
We are leaving you don't need us
And it's a fair wind
blowin' warm out of the south over my shoulder
guess I'll set a course and go
this is beautiful.
ReplyDeleteBye Bye Miss American pie...the day the music died...That song seems to fit what has occurred this January. Poignant look back in this piece. So many things are changing and so much remains in us of all we've seen, heard and lived. Lovely write! Thanks so much for taking part in the prompt.

This has such a peaceful feel, I get that it's not a sad thing, but simply a reflection on past and future, plus a touch of nostalgia.
