11 September

My daughter Hannah and I went to visit the sunflower farm in Newbury

It was crazy hot and we couldn't handle the oppressive heat for very long

We picnicked on fresh potato bread and chicken sandwiches,

home made icebox pickles and iced tea

while sitting in the car with the air conditioner running.

Of an evening we went to the town bonfire on short beach

to celebrate the end of summer with s'mores!

We went to visit a friend and played a game of backyard football

then jumped into the pool!

mums are in the local market places

and I brought home a bunch of cheery yellow for the sunny table in the dining room

This is the second season we've visited the sunflower farm. Last year the flowers were bigger and taller.

We think that they didn't have enough rain this year.

It was nice to be able to get a picture of the field and the sky. Last year they were too tall

for me to do that.

I end up with all sorts of broken sea shells

i love being able to see the wabi-sabi

in their little spiral homes

  17. Someday I hope to visit a sunflower farm. They are such optimistic and sturdy plants. I loved the last photo of the flowers saluting the sun. Sorry that the weather was oppressive. Good call on having the picnic (such a yummy menu) in the air conditioned car.

A town bonfire . . . on a beach . . . with s'mores as a group activity? Sounds divine. I really NEED to see if there is a job opening in your area. ;) The only s'mores i had this summer were with with apples, marshmallows and chocolate. Surprisingly tasty. And the lack of what was better for my body.

  18. I saw a sunflower field for the first time ever on our road trip last weekend. They are so lovely! I got a container of three different coloured moms for my front porch to hold my scarecrow. S'mores and bonfires on the beach sound wonderful!

  19. Beautiful sunflower shots! I really like the next to last photo, with the yellow sunflowers set against the blue sky.

  20. Beautiful flowers-- both the mums and the sunflowers. They're so cheerful. Instead of orange being the 'color' of autumn, I think it should be yellow.
Any time on the beach is time well spent. S'mores just add sweetness.
