many little blessings

I am a mum and I am also a step-mum
Many of us will not be married to the same man for the rest of our lives
or perhaps our husbands will have had a wife before us
there will be children
and there will be the "ex"
the children's mother
All of this will put your faith to the test
you will need to decide what kind of a heart you want to have
you will need to set priorities
and you will need to check in often
to be sure that your heart
is still in the right place and that your priorities haven't slipped
because it won't be and they will
you will need to have open, honest, heart-wrenching talks with
Yahweh - God - the big Love

you will need to be flexible
very, very flexible
like bend to the point of breaking flexible
like turn the other cheek flexible

like Jesus flexible

When I was a little girl I imagined that I would have a large family

I loved The Walton's
After I had my two daughters I decided two was enough
but God had other plans for me
He gave me three step-children to raise with my own daughters

and various other children to leave my mark upon
and when they had grown up
he gave me two more little step-sons to help raise
and one large step-son to leave my mark upon

So....
It occurs to me as I sit here drinking coffee at my kitchen table
still at this mothering thing at 52,
I just might have gathered some wisdom along the way.
I just might have figured out that
I have been answering my calling all along

I just might have something I can pass along

  4. I agree that mothering takes a lot of flexibility and takes many forms. Sounds as if you have been blessed several times over.

I have to show this post to my middle son and DIL when they are next over here / combined families and challenges :)

Deep peace of the running wave to you.
Deep peace of the flowing air to you.
Deep peace of the quiet earth to you.
Deep peace of the shining stars to you.
Deep peace of the gentle night to you.
Moon and stars pour their healing light on you
