30 april

daffodils bloom in the dune grasses

that line the path to the beach

one fall day long ago

some one must have planted bulbs in bunches along the way

so now

pale and bright yellow flowers

sway in the sweet ocean breezes

I discovered recently that these daffodils were planted back in the 1970s

by an old gentleman whose lovely great-granddaughter

still lives here on our rather tiny island

what a lovely testament to him

28 April

every spring i walk down the path through the wood

to find brand new green shoots bursting out of trees and branches

every day i see the tide changing

on the beach

the sun sets, the stars sparkle, the earth spins

we are specks of stardust

these are the days are that matter

not how things were in the past,

or how they may be in the future

but what we do this very day

as we open our hearts and our eyes

and step from our front doors

in automatic

27 April

the tulips have gone by

and wait by the back door to be planted in the bulb garden

the good

there is a peacefulness that comes from

enjoying the pleasure of one's own company

the random

a new starbucks has opened just up the way from us

i was there this morning to buy some ground coffee

the fun

of  an afternoon we walk the path through the wood to the playground

and use our imaginations to make believe that the old willow trees

are castles on the edge of an old sea

26 april

windy and cool on the beach

the flag is flying straight out to the north-east

and the clouds are forming heavy and dark

We certainly have come a long ways in the most technologically advanced

ways to kill each other since 1775

It would be great if we could slow that down a bit

my perspective

I love to photograph images from behind

I love the stories those images can tell...
sometimes I get to feeling I was back in the old days-long ago

when we were kids when we were young

those were the days of our lives

the bad things in life were so few

those days are all gone now but one thing is true

when i look and i find

i still love you

my man

almost as fresh as it gets

always has been

I think it's in the blood

I may not be as fresh as he is

but I do a fair job of keeping up

of an afternoon found us walking the beach

and we used lacrosse sticks to throw rocks into the water

an Ordinary day

19 April, 1775

The British soldiers marched into Concord early on the morning

of 18 April, 1775

to capture the weapons and munitions that the colonials

had moved there from other places

upon hearing word that the British would be raiding

but the Colonial militia held them off

in the first battle of the American Revolution at Lexington.

The British were not able to capture any munitions

that early morning

and began their slow march back toward Boston.

Where upon minute men hidden in wood and field

began harassing and shooting at the redcoats.

All afternoon the shots were heard as the redcoats marched back to Boston.

and thus what became known as

the American Revolution

The American minutemen were called that because they could be ready

to fight at a minutes notice.

Every April, around the 19th, Massachusetts celebrates Patriot's Day.

In Concord/Lexington, at the Minuteman National Park,

the biggest re-enactment of the year is held.

This is where I took these pictures a few days ago.

I am always amazed at how these people must have just woken one very ordinary

morning to the sound of gunfire in the common.

They had no idea that this particular ordinary day

was about to become so historically extraordinary.

21 april

April is for tulips

if not blooming outdoors yet....

at least we can have them on the tables in the parlor

21 april

The one thing we're all waiting for, is peace on earth and an end to war,
It's a miracle we need, the miracle, the miracle,
Peace on earth and end to war today,
That time will come one day you'll see when we can all be friends,

20 April

the good

Your slightest look will easily unclose me

though i have closed myself as fingers

you open always petal by petal myself as spring opens

(touching skilfully, mysteriously)her first rose

e. e. cummings

the fun

We had a sort of an impromptu

dinner party last weekend

and my lovely cousin brought tulips

the random

Of an afternoon we walked the path through the wood

we happened upon town workers who were cutting down

a very dangerous pussy willow tree

I scooped up some branches to carry home with us

our rather tiny island from above

drink of choice

outside our windows we see the kite surfers

and the Boston skyline

this fits right into Our Beautiful World's theme this week

which is toys.

17 April

~ 1 ~

it's been ever so long a  winter

we broke our own record for snowfall

never having had so much before

just about 111 inches here!

~ 2 ~

daffodils are in bloom
on the sunny hillside over looking town
fresh and new

they nod their yellow heads together

as if to say

my word....did you ever see such a winter

~ 3 ~

there is rain today

but tomorrow is to be bright and sunny and warm

~ 4 ~

I hear the birds as I sip my tea in the morning

a pair of cardinals that visit the porch and eat the seed that falls

~ 5 ~

I am getting together with my sweet Bonnie this afternoon

which is one of my most favorite things to do....

even in the rain
