30 October

a pear is a sensual fruit.
ripe and round
and sort of plump
almost voluptuous in shape
soft, but not too soft
beautiful in the light
almost dancing on the kitchen windowsill
fits nicely in the palm of your hand
delicious and slightly fragrant
I once had a pear tree growing outside my bedroom window
I would lie awake in the moonlight and listen to fat pears
dropping onto the grass below us

20 October

Two paths diverged in a yellow wood And knowing I could not travel both  And be one traveler, long I stood And looked down one as far as I could To where it bent in the undergrowth
Robert Frost

the wood is littered with yellow
leaves from the birches and beach trees
bittersweet bursting open
yellow leaves with red berries
and dappled sunshine
on the path

19 October

a perfect day

I was not familiar with this song so I played it on youtube.
it seems, somehow, depressing to me...almost sarcastic.
It is rather sad that he died so young (71...seems younger and younger to me)
For me, a perfect day is spending time with the ones I love
or a romp on the beach while supper is cooking.

17 October

this was taken last winter...
it can get rather lonely and foreboding on an island
in Janurary
a rather tiny island has mood swings
let's just say she can get mighty pissed off
in the dead of winter give you the cold shoulder

or toss a few boulders up onto the causeway during a high tide
and leave all the folks stranded here
till she feels like she's proved her point

then go all quiet and still again like nothing ever happened

friday finds

16 October

the path through
 the hundred acre wood
leads to the playground

sometimes there are groundhogs
in the pathway
when they see us they waddle
into the tall brush reeds
where the birds and mices
scuttle about
gathering tiny seeds
and acorns
for an October feast

the fun

Hung out with most of kids yesterday

 The good
Team shirt

The random
it was chilly and wet today
we had a few visits from some mourning doves
who puffed up to keep warm

the good, the random, the fun

10 October

the autumn here on this rather tiny island has been warm thus far
seed pods intermingle with fresh blooms
in the garden
first frost should hit in a week or so
all blossoms will bend
those seeds that have hidden away in there little pod homes
will fall to the earth
and lie in waiting
the whole winter through

these pictures are from last winter

9 October

lingering monarchs
the community gardens on this rather tiny island
has a section area devoted to butterflies
and so the monarchs linger there
as they pass by
on their way to warmer climates than ours

little things thursday

8 October

we went to Maine
to visit the cousins

this is an app called flipagram
in case you didn't notice it's shameless advertising in the video
which is one of the things I don't care for
the other being that it sometimes clips the photos
other than that though it's a great app
and lots of fun!
app happy wednesday

6 October

the good
for the past 45 minutes I have been watching the sun rise over the Atlantic Ocean
from my living room window. It has been some time since I've seen it. I've been
busy or it's been raining and gray. I had forgotten how beautiful it was.
I am not posting a picture....wake up early one day soon and
watch the sun come up from where you are.
it is absolutely the most amazing thing.
every single morning you can count on that sun breaking forth over the horizon
into a new day

the random
Joe hit a deer at 4:30 this morning driving through the city on his way to work.
It's antlers crashed into the driver's side mirror but didn't go through the window.
Quite a scare for the both of them but no one was hurt.

the fun
The last of the quarry jumping

the good the random the fun

6 October

they went to the sunflower field
a mother and two grown daughters
they walked through the middle

and they made pictures

3 October

the last of september was an Indian summer weekend

so we went for a last trip to the quarries

but the brambleberry vines climbing the pine trees
were yellow and orange
and the water was cooler than it had been
when we got home we closed all the windows
in the fading sunlight
