31 january
the bitter cold has kept me indoors
and i begin to feel the loss of the natural world as my constant companion
there is a stirring within me
to walk the beaches and the small woods of this rather tiny island
exploring the lines of the horizon
the lines of dawn
the lines of the Atlantic as it laps the shore
~
across the street at dog beach a small dingy washed up on shore during the nor'easter
we had just after New Years
~
many years ago another storm washed up the big wooden structure in the foreground
the semi-circular pieces you see are for holding some type of oars
I have no idea what it once was
i tell the boys it is part of an old pirate ship
~
the very first house you can see, the green one, is our house
~
the market was on my list of things to do yesterday
the list i put aside in favor of searching through every single drawer and file
for a single piece of paper that, as it turns out, we never had to begin with
the market is on my list of things to do again today
it will be much more difficult to fit in though
and i will be hungry as i shop because
there is nary a crumb of food in the house

Beautiful pictures and that is certainly interesting structure, maybe it was an old pirate ship.
ReplyDeleteThat 1st shot is so pretty!
ReplyDeleteIt looks like a lovely place to live any time of year! Grocery shopping is always difficult when one is hungry. I try to at least eat a snack before I go :)
ReplyDeleteI make lists then forget to take them, and when I am at the store I pull out a list from the week before and stare at it puzzled for a moment before I realize that Today's List is on the Dining Room Table back at home...:)
ReplyDeleteA washed up pirate ship...oh, I bet the boys' imagination runs wild with that!!
ReplyDeleteYes, I too would much rather have the warm sunshine and the tropical beaches in comparison to the cold wintry scene you share with your home in the background. Not the home...or the area....but the COLD feel it emanates.
I dislike going to the store hungry as I buy everything and anything, but then I have too much control when I'm not and get home wishing I'd bought more. That first shot is so lovely! Gosh I am so tired of winter now :)
ReplyDeleteIt´s cold here as well and that makes everything a bit harder I think.
ReplyDeleteI understand the feeling after being in the house for too long -- I pace! Lovely to see your house. I used to enjoy walking along the beach and seeing what treasure might have deposited on shore. Happy shopping!
ReplyDeleteOh you live in a magical world where my imagination would go wild. I would be out there all the time. It will warm up and be beautiful and fun to explore. Have fun shopping:) Hug B
ReplyDeletethe beach is one of my favorite leading lines... I love all things beach and the skyline where water meets sky is wonderful.
ReplyDeleteOh - I hate shopping when I'm hungry - I always buy things I don't need!
ReplyDeleteLiz @ Shortbread & Ginger
absolutely stunning photos.....
ReplyDeletethanks for sharing at FF...

The colors in your first shot are simply glorious! And every little boy needs to discover a pirate ship! I'm missing my time with nature as well since the frigid temps are keeping me inside too.
ReplyDeleteVisiting from R5F and Friday Finds
Market is on my list today, too. -sigh- I finally have to venture out, after having sent husband, for this and that, for too long now. -grin-
ReplyDeleteGreen house, the one on the hill, to the left of the pic, yes?
How wonderful to live surrounded by woods and beaches, where interesting items wash up, after storms. To walk those beaches... Oh how lucky you are.
Tessa~
ha! That is me with shopping! Always forgetting the list. This winter seems to drag this year, eh?
ReplyDeleteThe color in the first photo is very pleasing. Quite interesting story in the second. Great job.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous sunset photo!
ReplyDeleteYou live in an amazing place! I love the coast and these photos leave me wanting more of both your photos and the coast! Happy weekend.
ReplyDeleteYou live in a very beautiful area! The first photo is stunning!
ReplyDeleteWhat a great place to live. Love your beach photos. And the big wooden structure is awesome.
ReplyDeleteInteresting post...love just hearing about your life. What will happen to the dingy? Will the owner be found, or will someone just claim it? I didn't know if it had some kind of numbers on it to show who really owns it, or if there are a dime a dozen there and no one worries.
ReplyDeleteAnother great post from you!
ReplyDeleteDang! I wish I lived in that lovely green house by the beach! That is my dream!
I hate going to the grocery store when I'm hungry .... I buy almost everything in sight! LOL
Have a great weekend!

ReplyDeleteWow you live really close to the ocean. That is so cool. I love your photo and reading about the (pirate ship). Sure is interesting looking. Does anyone know what it actually was used for. - Yes I think many are so ready for the winter to be over and done with.
ReplyDeleteI just realized I wasn't a "follower" of your blog but I've remedied that now.
... I was getting ready to go to the store this morning and then thought, I really don't need to go... so I didn't! :) Lovely images of the beach.
ReplyDeleteThe sunrise is beautiful! How wonderful to live that close to the water, even if it is cold. How I long to sink my toes in the sand...
ReplyDeleteI love the first photo! Fantastic colors!

ReplyDeleteThe bump on the horizon just makes the shot. Beautiful!
ReplyDeleteGorgeous sunrise capture! I would love to be there now, walking on the beach!
ReplyDeleteI imagine living close to the sea is not always quite as pleasant in winter as in summer!
ReplyDeleteBeautiful photos. It looksso cold there.
