I am attending college for the first time in my life! There are many different reasons why I never attended before none of which I want to go into here...we only have 5 minutes. I am enjoying it now more than I ever thought I would. I am surprising myself! I have remembered that I am smart! Joe has been telling me that for years but I wasn't convinced. Yesterday at school I had a class mate tell me I am smart as well. This is such good news to me! I have spent the last 20 years being convinced that I wasn't very smart.
I have to take comp 101. Please imagine sad, frowny faces inserted here...It's a lot of writing.  I have always written on a blog or in a journal. But, this is formal writing in a certain style on a certain topic. So far, I am doing very well though and more importantly I'm stretching myself out of a comfort zone and I like it!!

  1. You are going to have such a good time taking classes, and I envy you; I could spend the rest of my life as a student on a college campus. So invigorating!! You will love the comp course; you hate the messy part of writing, curse while developing the drafts, but LOVE the piece after you finish it and submit it. Trust me; it's a LOT of rewarding effort and work!! Much good luck flowing your way.

  2. I went to a children's literacy festival on Sat. so I've been thinking much about writing. It would be hard to have someone grade you. That was a long time ago for me. One of my daughters is an English major, a bit of writing for her, haha!

  3. You ARE smart. Don't let anyone tell you different. Continue to enjoy college, stretch yourself and learn new things. You can do anything you want to do!

    Visiting from FMF.

  4. Oh good luck but I am positive you are going to do just fine. Congratulations on figuring out you are what you have always been and now are doing something with it. We all need to know this. I am happy for you. B

  5. Well good for you! GO FOR IT! And keep on writing. It's good for the soul! Aloha

  6. Good for you! I am planning to go back and finish a degree soon, as well. I'm very excited about it. I'm glad you're enjoying classes, and you're right, it DOES stretch you beyond your comfort zone.

When it gets really hard, remember this: my major was French! I had to write my papers in French. Papers on existentialism. That was....difficult, to say the least.

Just keep at it. You are smart. You are. And you're writing. That's great.

I'm here via Five Minute Friday.

  7. Good for you! What a brave thing to do. I took community college classes when I was in my forties (first time for me). My work paid for some of it, but then I did some on my own..it was hard, but I was proud of myself too. I loved the writing and lit classes.

  8. I envy you. Your blog is screams smart. :)
