2 September

grace

August pirouettes across the kitchen floor

as I sweep the beach sand back outside again

August dances on an evening breeze and tickles the air on the porch

rocking our chairs

carrying the sounds of guitar and soft song

into the hush

August dries the bathing suits that hang on the hooks in the bathroom

and puddles the sea water onto the floor beneath them

August hears the sounds of children's laughter

and sees the eyes that crinkle when they smile

August smells of marshmallows and small fires and giant old fir trees

August sets the geese down in the golden fields and  swoops them up again over drifting seas

August sways us gently toward the inevitable and steps aside

September gently touches nodding goldenrod and turns the apples red

So we who stand here in the gleam of so lovely and so charming of a dance

will know the splendid joy of August

who whirls us through the summers of our lives

and leaves us in reverence of her grace.

To have it all and give it up so sweetly

  5. Seasons changing is always melancholic, but never as much as the change from summer into autumn, I feel.

  6. Really enjoyed this. I missed a bit of my summer this year due to the insane amount of rain we've had. Looking forward to fall....it's may fave. You captured both so nicely.

  16. This made me happy and sad... we spend June on the beach, and it is so lovely and summery...and now as fall starts to show itself it makes me long for those days.
