-the scarlet kiss of sunrise
it's just a very feathery thing
Easily lost in the brighter, mirrored light of day
that habitual, familiar, circular light
which shoots it's well oiled promises out
like traveling salesmen who come to push their swaying tonics
and close their deals with sparks in an inky sky
so we slip, wet and zombie-like
into the holes of doubt
we slip wet and zombie like into holes of doubt...dang, that close gave me a bit of a shiver....
ReplyDeleteWOW! I agree with Brian. Great job and love your mission statement at the top.
ReplyDeleteThat's a good response to the challenge, and a great closing line ~ M
ReplyDeleteVery nicely done. I see we both mentioned market selling. Funny where the words take us.

The holes of doubt gives me pause for thought!!
ReplyDeleteWow. From the hope of sunrise to the "holes of doubt". That sounds like any given day, all right. So well penned!
ReplyDeleteI was going to say I love the ending, but really I love it all. You wrote something so meaningful. Makes me want to stay centered today and be aware when doubt lurks about. Really good writing.
ReplyDeleteindeed, September does appear to have that effect... i love the traveling salesmen metaphor, & altogether a nice tight use of the wordled words
ReplyDeleteThe end of the piece is fantastic. I liked it all, but the ending is killer! Love it.
ReplyDeleteI really enjoyed this--wonderful!!

ReplyDeletescarlet sunrise, sparks in an inky sky, slip, wet, zombie like... love the play of contrasts.. :)
This is a metaphoric paradise for the reader.
ReplyDeleteThat last line is simply stunning.
ReplyDeleteVery nicely penned. I love the imagery and the contrasts. Thank you for sharing.
ReplyDeleteYour images somehow very close to mine...I love the last line...very cool!
ReplyDelete...well oiled promises... the sunrise doesn't always make good on its promise... or is it us that don't reach our full potential? Either way, I loved this. Beautiful words.
ReplyDeletelike the metaphor of the salesman with false promise..it is true, not every sunrise, glorious though it may appear, creates a day of good will, and it does seem at the end of the day that we have been tricked by the 'scarlet kiss'
ReplyDeleteYes, as someone commented, it reminds one to stay mindful throughout the day. A lovely piece. I love the feathery sunlight.
ReplyDeleteThe waves of doubt and hope are like the seas that allow all of sees as ONE for C in case one calls IT Christian or even JUST IT
