poetry jam
still remains.

she would be gone now

no corridor to hear the echo of her voice

nor gentle eye to twinkle in the crevice of a thought

no songs to sing -

the devotion of  a hundred years might seem too much to give to some one elses hopes and dreams

but dreams and hopes are  things that wrap around to light up  places that we hardly knew were dark

and a hundred years of giving comes back in ways

that we who do not know what giving is

can see

no living kin to know again her generosity of spirit

nor those she loved know gentle hands to care for them

no laughter -

a hundred years is all to short a time it seems
but those who call her to them will not wait

so we who gather here to let her go

will have upon the glitter of the sea
a refraction of her gift that
still remains

  3. ... 'so we who gather here to let her go' ~~ this line in your beautifully composed poem spoke to me. We recently passed the sixth anniversary of the day we sprinkled my mother's ashes ...

  4. 'Places that we hardly knew were dark'
I'm sure this poem means something different to each of us. My mind = heart - went straight to my old aunt, a nun in a teaching order. Beautifully put together words and rhythm here.

  5. What a beautiful poem! Love 'a hundred years of living comes back in ways that we do not know what giving is...." There is reflectiveness mixed with sadness, a fine blend.

  6. Yes, dreams and hopes light up dark places ... a refraction of her gift that still remains ... the glitter of the sea. Really lovely lines here, so compassionate and emotive, hopeful :)

  7. This is incredibly lovely and really spoke to me.........she sounds like one who gave unstintingly, and perhaps not all she gave to appreciated her. I resonate with that. A sad and beautiful elegy, most beautifully felt and written. Wow.

  8. A lovely tribute, those who give so much, amazing to think of having a hundred years to share. Really loved the ending, glitter on the sea:-)

  9. 'and a hundred years of giving comes back in ways

that we who do not know what giving is

can see' - resonate with me and about discovering 'gifts' after...
    I'm just in silence...

  10. Oh...this is the silence that can be most intimately felt...a creative piece at its best! :)

  16. It made me think of love and solitude and of sacrificing of self for others. Poignant indeed.

  17. PS....and these 2 lines hit me right between the heart strings:

no corridor to hear the echo of her voice

nor gentle eye to twinkle in the crevice of a thought

  18. Came back to read it again. Lovely lovely lovely. The glitter of the sea at the end and the idea of crevices in thoughts in the first stanza. Very mystical. Layers to think about. :)

  19. Very moving poem. I really like the light references...especially "but dreams and hopes are things that wrap around to light up places that we hardly knew were dark". Sometimes we don't recognize the dark until someone brings their light to it.
